How come Avatar's Na'vi look like humans?

I think it's because they are humans, but of course not the same species as we are.
They don't seem related to any other large animals on Pandora but are genetically quite similar to us. So someone must have transplanted and likely genetically modified early hominids from Earth millions of years ago.
Of course, one has to either think they were either given the "hair"-connectors by whoever introduced them on Pandora or disregard that feature.
